Interview with Paolo: contemporary living in Rome
Project design: Area, Anna Caridi
We talked to this guy ... Paolo.
He's cool. He lives in a penthouse in Rome,
drives a scooter when his Porsche is parked
and he loves to bang drums.
We still had a couple of questions ...
T.: What’s your favourite car brand?
P.: Porsche, hands down. Combination of classic timeless beauty and modern tech, resulting in a high-performing product. I love the dedication they have for it.
T.: What drives you more: classics or contemporary? Why?
P.: I like the modern, contemporary a bit better, because it makes me look forward and into the future. It’s cool to be ahead, in front of everyone - like in sports, ha ha. Of course, classic looks are beautiful, but there are also modern classics that will be remembered sometime in the future.
T.: How would you describe your lifestyle?
P.: I’m a fairly simple man that loves music, great Italian food and design, fast cars … and I love to enjoy good company that inspires in me in some way. That’s why I like to hang out in Area showroom with designers that enrich my living spaces and imagination. There are always some good conversations about new ideas, technology, possibilities, materials and in the end product design. I love that. There is so much going on ... and art and creation are endless. And as a great man once said: “Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
T.: And how do you choose your furniture and lighting?
P.: Luckily I have some good friends that are very knowledgeable in this area. Some are designers, some have similar taste, and some I met on Design Weeks around the world. Also - when I see a good piece, I want to have it. If it is speaking to me, I know it’s good … And then a collection is building itself.
T.: Do you have a favourite lamp in your house?
P.: In my living room I have 3 sets of lamps/light sources, but 90% of the time I’m using Tokio.’s Carbon Light CARB 12 that I found in the Area showroom, because it’s just so cool, dimmable, and made of carbon fibre, so it kinda reflects the aesthetic of sports cars which I love … and I can control it from my phone, which is awesome. Hands down a modern classic.
